e-Learning Course: Preventing Plagiarism

Empowering Students to Use Sources with Academic Integrity

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Background

This course is currently being developed for the Writing Center at Valencia College, Lake Nona. It will be available for Valencia faculty and staff to assign to students via the Canvas learning management system.

Inspiration for the course came from some of the struggles we have seen students face with how to use sources appropriately. Similar questions and misconceptions about plagiarism came up many times. We realized there was a need for a resource to help students better understand the concept of plagiarism and how to avoid it.

Concept map, created on Coggle.it, provides a visual overview of the planned modules for the Plagiarism Prevention course.

Possible implementations of this course include as preventative education on plagiarism or as an educational component to alternative disciplinary measures.
